About Acupuncture

The Chinese and other eastern cultures have been using acupuncture to restore, promote and maintain good health for thousands of years, so it has certainly stood the test of time.  According to traditional Chinese philosophy our health is dependent on energy moving in a smooth and balanced way through a series of channels beneath the skin.  This energy or Qi can be disturbed by various factors including emotional states of anxiety, anger or grief as well as hereditary factors, infections and trauma.  When imbalance occurs this is when illness can result.

Ultra fine needles are inserted into energy channels on the body.  This stimulates the body's own healing response and restores harmony.  Treatment is aimed at the root of a condition as well as the symptoms.  This brings about a more permanent solution to your problems.

In order to do this all treatments are tailored to each individuals needs, so consideration will be given to details like your medical history, diet, sleeping pattern  emotional state and general well being.

Acupuncture can work on it's own or combined with Western medicine and is suitable for all ages.

DOES IT HURT?

Having been a needle phobic myself I am pleased to say the needles used for acupuncture are very fine indeed - about the width of a hair.  The sensation created by needling is often likened to a tingling or buzzing and many patients report they didn't know the needles were in.

Children can be treated without inserting a needle.  All children must be treated with an adult present and have consent of a parent or guardian.  In my experience some children actually choose to have acupuncture needles - it makes a good story to recount to friends!
